Managing Director Role

DESCRIPTION: Managing Director: To prepare for the onset of public domain rights of works of Ives, The Ives Society needs to hire a Managing Director who can liaise with the President, Executive Editor, Lawyer, Publishers, and Website team. Responsibilities will include:


  • Manage the assignment of rights to works currently unassigned to a publisher in conjunction with the law offices for the American Academy of Arts & Letters and the Ives Society.
  • Oversee rights re-assignment process for multiple copyright holders when needed for collections, e.g. songs, chorales, violin sonatas.

2) PROJECT MANAGE: Liaise with Publishers on Ready Editions:

  • First Sonata – Peer Publishing
  • Songs – on Demand
  • Violin Sonatas - on Demand


  • Proofreading and Oversight of Executive Editor’s editions that have been successfully prepared on an accelerated timeline to meet the 2024 timeline and ready for final review.
  • Manage current SIBELIUS files that have been prepared by Executive Editor. Manage files that need refined technical engraving and proofreading against sources. Delegate writers for prefaces where none exist. Sibelius expertise a plus (or oversight of an outside engraver).
  • Individual editors oversight: for proofing editions.

4) ARCHIVAL: Collate existing materials for website and on demand. Oversee:

  • critical commentaries (executive editor)
  • diplomatic facsimiles (executive editor)
  • manuscript images (work with archival manager and Yale Gilmore library).


This is a part-time position.

Pay: $30,000/yearly with quarterly review.
