More Info
This early Ives recording includes an excerpt from Washington’s Birthday, which begins at the Allegro at measure 56. Jo Hawthorne conducts the Cape Cod Symphony Society in an interpretation that highlights the folk-like atmosphere of the music. The orchestra plays with a graceful sense of rhythmic drive, frequently bringing out the quoted traditional melodies over the surrounding dissonant textures.
